"Ritvikites" inability to work together

Nimai Pandit dasa

the Ritvikites' inability to work together, their splintering into multiple groups, demonstrates that they have no solution to ISKCON's troubles.”
-  HH Bhakti Vikas Swami on Sampradaya Sun January 19, 2013

For decades, we Prabhupadanugas, instead of having the better understanding regarding Guru-tattva, have not been able to work together. There are constant dissensions, disagreements, arguments, public criticizing each other for small things,----we are an uninspiring laughing stock for most devotees worldwide as HH is pointing out above. One can point a finger at him saying“oh, he is pretending to be a Guru and what not”, but the fact remains that what he is saying is correct.

As Srila Prabhupada says: “So we have to all cooperate amongst ourselves, otherwise what will people think if we ourselves fight with one another? (In Letter to PatitaUddharana, 12 December, 1974)

The hour of the need is to FIRST bring the Prabhupadanugas together so that the devotees actually feel more inspired, hope, good guidance and taste in the process of KC.

Unfortunately for the Krishna Consciousness Movement and Prabhupadanugas in particular, we have tried and tried but we have had strong disagreements on even small things.

I have been in meetings 10+ years back where even whole day we had discussed on 1 common name for the Worldwide Society of Prabhupadanugas---with practically no agreement. There are many regional groups of Prabhupadanugas without working together, without much coordinating together, instead many times sniping at each other.

Srila Prabhupada’s society also was to provide equal level and senior level association (see SB 4.8.34)to the leaders, who in their own regions would be seniors and Siksha gurus.Without this equal and senior association among them, the tendency among many leaders among the Prabhupadanugas, including mine,is that anarthascome up and that results in stunted growth of preaching, which is quite visible worldwide if we are honest with ourselves. One worldwide organizational platform can help us be protected by providing the organizational induced association, the devotee association which is Lord Caitanya’s method to guard against anarthas, the bijas of karma, jnana, yoga.(seeCc. Madhya 19.157p)

We have seen too many devotees falling away, too many devotees suffering without good like minded association, new devotees not able to advance smoothly and not able to feel the inspiration and the taste of good association, of participating in large festivals with fellow devotees ----- we want to assist Srila Prabhupada in bringing this about, like many many other devotees around the world do too.

What is the SOLUTION to bring this about?

We are proposing that we come together on the organizational platform given by Srila Prabhupada, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Inc. (Or ISKCON, Inc.).It seems likely that this is the only name ISKCON, which we CAN all agree upon. It seems likely that the Direction of Management, written on the letterhead of  ISKCON, Inc. is the only management method that we CAN all agree upon. As we are seeing it happen in many parts of the world.

More one can read in these articles –

We are also traveling and holding Prabhupadanuga festivals to discuss in istagoshtis and receive direct feedback and listen respectfully on how better to work this out.

Our humble plea to all Prabhupadanugas, is - If not ISKCON, Inc., then please propose another solution for all of us, another organizational platform that can convince all Prabhupadanugas to come together and we will follow you in it.

We need your constant association, and all need each others. After taking care of our divisions, we need to provide an example to all. We owe this to Srila Prabhupada.

But this regional groupism ought not to continue

We end with HH BhaktiVikas Swami again to be inspired by him – “the Ritvikites' inability to work together, their splintering into multiple groups, demonstrates that they have no solution to ISKCON's troubles.”

As Srila Prabhupada says: “So we have to all cooperate amongst ourselves, otherwise what will people think if we ourselves fight with one another?
(Srila Prabhupada in Letter to PatitaUddharana, 12 December, 1974)

Please write what is your proposed solution ?What are your views ?

  1. I agree with all your points. Association would be so nice not only for me but also for my family, which although very favorable, just isn't able to make the jump to actually practicing devotional service regularly.
As far as the plea to suggest name for the society, it would behoove all of our members to understand that the name that the spiritual master has already given us should be our only wish. Guru mukha padma vakya chittete koriya aikhya, ara na koriho mane asha.
    Rama Raghava Dasa

  2. Krishnapriya Devi wrote: It would be interesting to get all the leaders of the different Ritvik camps together united on the main issues and under one name. Without partiality most appropriate would be ISKCON inc. for obvious reasons. But, when will the leaders of the groups chant, dance, eat, talk and work together for Srila Prabhupada. If they did, the world of Prabhupadanugas would follow!

  3. Janardana Das:

I read that article you wrote about ritvik's not having unity and you are right

and I am hopefull that iskon inc will be that unity

  4. Dear Nimai Pandit Prabhu, Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances.
    All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
Srila Prabhupada said that all of his temples should be independent. All of
his temples are automatically united, because they all share the same
Founder/Acharya, Srila Prabhupada. Another thing that unites all of his
temples are sannyasis who travel from temple-to-temple to preach. But the
main thing that unites all of Srila Praqbhupada temples is one
international GBC whose members visit all of the temples in their
respective zones to make sure that the spiritual standards are being
maintained. Srila Prabhupada also set up a system, known in the US military
as the "buddy system." This "buddy system" meant that the more experienced
disciples of Prabhupada were constantly instructing the less experienced
disciples/bhaktas. This system was practically destroyed overnight by the
"zonal acharyas" telling the devotees, "My godbrothers are just envious of
me. Don't listen to them." Thus we now have "grand disciples" who are not
    properly trained. (See )

You are the temple president of ISKCON Long Island, and we are all proud of
the wonderful work that you are doing, especially for your determination to
stand up to the onslaught of the "official" ISKCON GBC criminals trying to
take control of your temple. Please keep up the good work!

If you want to have more influence over other Prabhupadanuga temples, then
perhaps this forum would be useful to you. We are all eager to get as much
of your very valuable knowledge/association as we can. I'm sure, that you
have a lot of valuable experience to share with us, so please continue to
post comments on the news website. Please
also continue to post messages on the <> forum, either directly or
    indirectly as you see fit.

    Your servant, Pratyatosa Dasa

  5. Dear Gaurangasundar Prabhu, my mistake. Please forgive me for falsely
accusing you, and please keep up the wonderful service that you are doing
    for Srila Prabhupada.

    Your servant, Pratyatosa Dasa

    Haribol, dear Gaurangasundar!

    Very Nice...

  7. Hare Krishna. Respects. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. I think I a the first ritvik initiation ceremony Prabhupadanuga in the movement. The ceremony took lace in India on May 22nd 1986, the day that Sulocan dasa prabhu was murdered. I went on to be used by Lord Krishna to help start the Srila Prabhupada festival and then the Srila Prabhupada family reunion.
Now, I am organizing the First International Prabhupadanuga convention in Alachua projected for May of 2015. All Prabhupadanugas are invited to attend. I am going soon to Alachua to form a committee and build the foundation and bases for this Prabhupadanuga convention, which is designed for all of us to make a sincere effort to address the issues that have stopped us from serving Srila Prabhupada as he wanted, with more patience, tolerance and more of a cooperative spirit and with a nice service attitude. My humble observation, is that Prabhupadanuga devotees also suffer from various degrees the distinction virus. But that is just me. I look forward to this convention to see what others devotees have to say. Please tell others and welcome with any questions. Jai Srila Prabhupada! Sincerely,

    Mahatma dasa
