The Fake GBC: BUTCHERS of ISKCON - Part 1

By:
Mahesh Raja, UK
This article is in response to  http://harekrsna.com/sun/news/03-13/news4734.htm
These unelected butchers “GBC’s” as per Srila Prabhupada’s unrevoked “Direction of Management” (1970) have chosen to mislead the devotees - yet again by imposing an invention of “Diksha” guru that is NOT in the shastra. Their DEVIOUS ploy HAS ALWAYS BEEN how to GET RID OF SRILA PRABHUPADA THE BONAFIDE DIKSHA GURU AND REPLACE THEMSELVES AS DIKSHA GURU. Herein, we will examine in detail what the shastra says and compare the BOGUS reasonings of the fake GBC.
So here is what they give as evidence to somehow or other try to justify their claim to be Diksha Guru:
"This Krishna consciousness movement directly receives instructions from the Supreme Personality of Godhead via persons who are strictly following His instructions. Although a follower may not be a liberated person, if he follows the supreme, liberated Personality of Godhead, his actions are naturally liberated from the contamination of the material nature. Lord Chaitanya therefore says: 'By My order you may become a spiritual master.' One can immediately become a spiritual master by having full faith in the transcendental words of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and by following His instructions." Purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 4.18.5
And…
"A person who is liberated acharya and guru cannot commit any mistake, but there are persons who are less qualified or not liberated, but still can act as guru and acharya by strictly following the disciplic succession." Letter to Janardana, 26 April, 1968
And…
"We may not be cent percent perfect, but as far as possible, if we follow the instruction as it is, that much perfect. In this way one will get perfection. So one has to follow. The same example, try to understand, that a perfect, expert technologist or technician or mechanic is working, and somebody is working under his instruction. So this somebody, because he is strictly working under the instruction of the expert, he's also expert. He may not be cent percent expert, but his work is expert. Is that clear? Because he is working under the expert. Do you follow? So if you follow pure devotee, then you are also pure devotee. It may not be one is cent per cent pure. Because we are trying to raise our self from the conditional life. But if we strictly follow the pure devotee, then we are also pure devotee. So far we do, that is pure. So pure devotee does not mean one has to become immediately cent percent pure. But if he sticks to the principle that "We'll follow a pure devotee," then his actions are... He is as good as a pure devotee. It is not I am explaining in my own way. It is the explanation of Bhagavata. Mahajano yena gatah sa panthah [Cc. Madhya 17.186]."
Lecture, Los Angeles, November 25, 1968
Note: Now, the way they BLUFF others is they take them as IGNORANT FOOLS about WHAT DIKSHA ACTUALLY IS. We want the readers to SHOW what Diksha is THIS way they will be able to see CLEARLY that CONDITIONED SOULS can NOT give Diksha.
The conditioned souls can “ACT AS ACHARYA” which is: OFFICIATING ACHARYA (Ritvik Representative of the Acharya Srila Prabhupada by giving  1st and 2nd Initiations  ON BEHALF of Srila Prabhupada THE Diksha guru – other than that the CONDITIONED SOULS can NOT be Diksha guru. Their OWN statement indicates that their “Diksha” gurus are CONDITIONED SOULS who can deviate. And they are to be under GBC which means they are just PRIESTS. They are NOT Diksha Guru as per definition.
GBC STATEMENT MARCH 9, 2013
“Those who accept the service of diksha or shiksha guru within ISKCON are mandated to be strict followers of the instructions of Srila Prabhupada, and, as long as they follow, they are acting on the liberated platform. Thus they may serve, as Srila Prabhupada ordered, as bonafide representatives of the Lord and the Guru Parampara and be a via medium of Their mercy. YET IT SHOULD BE CLEARLY UNDERSTOOD THAT IF SUCH DIKSHA OR SIKSHA GURUS DEVIATE FROM STRICTLY FOLLOWING, THEY MAY FALL DOWN FROM THEIR POSITION.
THUS, TO ACT AS A DIKSHA GURU IN ISKCON MEANS TO SERVE UNDER THE GBC and in cooperation with other ISKCON authorities by functioning as a “regular guru” as Srila Prabhupada has directed.”
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Note: The issue is Srila Prabhupada wanted OFFICIATING ACHARYAS and THIS is what a Ritvik REPRESETATIVE OF THE ACHARYA FACTUALLY IS. So ACTING AS ACHARYA on a non-liberated platform is SIMPLY TO PERFORM 1ST AND 2ND Initiations ON BEHALF of Srila Prabhupada.
They want to somehow justify: - “but there are persons who are less qualified or not liberated, but still can act as guru and acharya by strictly following the disciplic succession” - this as Diksha guru. This “act as guru and acharya” is NOT the same as being ACHARYA who GIVES DIKSHA.
But what THEY want is to PRETEND TO GIVE DIKSHA. This way they EXPLOIT others by taking the money and make them THEIR OWN FREE SLAVES (“disciples”).
Now - we will address the QUALIFICATION of the Diksha guru and what EXACTLY takes place when DIKSHA is given by the Maha Bhagavata thus BY KNOWING WHAT DIKSHA FACTUALLY IS - THIS - WILL EXPOSE THE FAKE GBC’s game.

Madhya 24.330 - The Sixty-One Explanations of the Atmarama Verse
MAHA-BHAGAVATA-srestho

sarva-yajnesu DIKSITAH

((The guru MUST be situated on the topmost platform of devotional service. There are three classes of devotees, and the guru MUST be accepted from the topmost class. The first-class devotee is the spiritual master for all kinds of people. ….When one has attained the topmost position of MAHA-BHAGAVATA; he is to be accepted as a guru and worshiped exactly like Hari, the Personality of Godhead. Only such a person is eligible to occupy the post of a guru.))
Note: the word DIKSITAH refers to DIKSHA. This means ONLY Mahabhagavata is capable to GIVE DIKSHA. FORMALITY is of giving the holy name 1st and 2nd initiation is conducted by RITVIK (OFFICIATING ACHARYA) on BEHALF of Srila Prabhupada THE DIKSHA GURU.
Conversations, October 16, 1976, Chandigarh
Interviewer: What is the procedure of the movement? Do you initiate yourself all the disciples or do your other disciples also do that?
Prabhupada: Well, initiation or no initiation, first thing is knowledge. INITIATION IS FORMALITY. JUST LIKE YOU GO TO A SCHOOL FOR KNOWLEDGE AND ADMISSION IS FORMALITY. THAT IS NOT VERY IMPORTANT THING.
Question: Why is DIKSHA so important?
Answer: Diksha PROCESS entails the factor of REVELATION of your RELATIONSHIP (SVARUP also called Constitutional position) with Krishna. Once you have your relationship you have the freedom of IMMORTALITY. This means you do NOT transmigrate to other bodies. OTHERWISE by force of Karma you MUST accept another body. In simple terms – if you KNOW your SVARUPA your Karma is burned-off.
This is NOT easy – it can take MANY births.
Note: it is to be understood that he has BURNED UP THE REACTIONS of his work by perfect knowledge of his CONSTITUTIONAL POSITION AS THE ETERNAL SERVITOR of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

ISKCON Long Island, NY, implements S.P. Direction Of Management

by Nimai Pandit das, Temple President Long Island, NY

Subject: ISKCON Long Island, NY
Testimonial Ref: Direction Of Management (DOM)
Date: Mon, 1 Aug 2005
Dear Mukunda Prabhu,
Please accept my most humble obeisances! All Glories to Srila Prabhupada!
Prabhu, thank you very much for compiling the Srila Prabhupada Lilamrta As It is. The box of books which we got, we have been distributing to our congregation and many have liked it. I had sent one box to Kapindra Maharaj and 1 box to Nara Narayana Prabhu, as instructed by Jaya Krishna Prabhu. We read from the book every day after Srila Prabhupada's Guru puja.
I have read your postings about the Direction of Management implementation - that now is not the time to implement it, more need is there to concentrate on Hearing from Srila Prabhupada and raising the general standard of the Temples.
I agree with you to a large extent. Your compilation book "All of Us should hear Srila Prabhupada", has been well read and distributed by us for the last 4 years. We hear from Srila Prabhupada extensively in the temple, the ISKCON Long Island, NY. We also all read and distribute His Divine Grace's original books and we go out and chant(singing in the original style of kirtan as taught by Srila Prabhupada), distributing prasadam and books weekly thrice and doing house programs. When the colleges start in September, we will start regular college programs too. I myself read at least one hour daily Srila Prabhupada's books and letters. In the temple we have Srila Prabhupada singing kirtans 24 hours thru speakers in all places in the temple. We even have a 24 hours internet radio station where one can log onto www.iskconny.com and here the temple kirtans and lectures or singing/lectures from Srila Prabhupada or his early disciples all day/night long. All in the temple are being trained to be Srila Prabhupada's disciples. The deities Sri Sri Nimai Nitai, were installed by Srila Prabhupada in 1975 and were worshipped by Visnujan Maharaj. We change their clothes twice daily, daily abhishek and make offerings 4 times a day. We have been gradually trying to implement the original way of deity seva instituted by Srila Prabhupada in his ISKCON temples.
So, at least by some standards, this is a functioning ISKCON temple, as Srila Prabhupada desires it to be. Obviously, we could do much more to purify ourselves and others. And we will continue to increase our endeavor's specially by the blessings and instructions of devotees like your good self.
We came to know of the Direction of Management last year in court (Supreme Court of New York) during a hearing on a lawsuit brought by the so-called "GBCs" who were trying to kick us out of the temple, on the charge that we are "ritviks". It was their argument that they are appointed GBC by Srila Prabhupada according to the document- the DOM. Hence they had the right to demand obedience!
That is the time Sriman Nara Narayana Vishwakarma Prabhu told us the importance of Srila Prabhupada's DOM and the weak points in the presentation of the "GBCs". He even submitted an affidavit to the court to lay the real background of this document. Especially that these are not the real GBCs as they have not been elected.
Partly, due to his brilliant exposition of the document, the judge ordered the so-called "GBC"s to stay away. So now, for the last almost 1 year, we have been free to practice KC, as ordered by Srila Prabhupada to his disciples, in an organized manner.
We do not associate with the so-called ISKCON temples. All "GBCs" or their representatives have to take permission to come in the temple - which they have never asked for. Basically, we are practicing Krishna Consciousness, keeping the Acarya in the center and associating with like-minded devotees around the world.
During the lawsuit, we requested Locanananda Prabhu to come and speak about the Gurukuli abuses to show the corruption in the current ISKCON to the Judge. His 5 minute testimony was powerful and moving, even he choked up! We have also been helping the poison investigation, details of which I am not at a liberty to reveal.
My point is that even though we are an ISKCON temple, we do not associate with the corrupt ISKCON "leadership", rather are trying to educate others(innocents) about it.
Since last year's court battle, we have also been implementing the Direction of Management in the temple - gradually.
We have resisted the "GBC"s pressures to change our name from ISKCON to something else, Direction of Management specifically is made by Srila Prabhupada on the letterhead of INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS, INCORPOATED. This is the legal organization which owns our temple property. So this is the first thing we have done in implementing DOM. Not to change the name to anything else other than ISKCON. Srila Prabhupada moreover says,
"Then in 1966, July, I incorporated the Society under the name and style the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, briefly ISKCON. The lawyer was Mr. J. Goldsmith. Gradually the Society increased, and one after another branches were opened. Now we have got thirty-four (34) branches enlisted herewith".
Srila Prabhupada is specifically saying he incorporated a society name(d) .."briefly ISKCON".
All real property should be in the name of ISKCON. This is his order.
"7. Advice will be given by the GBC in cases of real property purchases, which will be in the name of ISKCON, INC. (Trucks or other vehicles will be purchased in the name of the local president)."
Hence these are the first instructions of DOM that we have already implemented here. We considered that these instructions we heard from Srila Prabhupada via his DOM are as important as his instructions we heard from in his lectures. I am sure you will agree and see the practicality of the situation. I have found here that devotees are more agreeable to help and cooperate if they can work under the name of ISKCON. You can understand that fighting a lawsuit to defend ourselves, keeping the temple program going daily, keeping regular preaching programs in NYC and taking care of the medium size congregation, for the last more than 1 year, takes some amount of resources, organization and cooperation among a good many like-minded devotees.
Another instruction of Srila Prabhupada from the Direction of Management which we have implemented is the next one:
"8. Removal of a Temple president by the GBC requires support by the local Temple members."
All devotees in the temple(currently 5 brahmacaris, 2 grahastha couple) know it and have seen this in writing and have been told by me several times, that if the devotees feel that the current Temple President, myself, is not doing his duty properly and is not qualified to do the service, then he can be removed by the Temple Members and a new one can be elected by the Temple Members. This instruction became paramount to implement now as devotees are all serving here, voluntarily, and giving up all their material possessions, and they wanted to know who is my authority. As I am definitely not a pure devotee, I found it a very good question to think of an answer of. Who is there to correct me? Srila Prabhupada. But what if I refuse or am unable to take the chastisement or correction from Srila Prabhupada. Is there another method Srila Prabhupada has set up in his organization for the managers to be accountable? According to the DOM, GBCs supervise Temple Presidents. But what if there are no real GBCs supervising me, as is the case now? At least the temple members have a say in keeping me in check if I become autocratic. Without that safety check, which intelligent, Brahman like devotee would like to surrender fully in such a temple environment for a long time? Otherwise, generally we have seen, and I know you have also experienced in "your" temple, the devotees in the temple start feeling that the TP thinks it is "his" temple.
I see that this DOM instruction of Srila Prabhupada would work the other way round too, when there are elected GBCs, they wouldn't be able to remove a TP whimsically, and hence a householder would feel much more secure in making his house into a preaching center in the name of ISKCON, legally, and put his hard-earned earnings in ISKCON's bank a/c to be used according to the instructions of Srila Prabhupada for preaching. This is how the new centres were opened in the early days. To insure that kind of trust again, without the DOM as a safety check, how will the householder's make their home's into ISKCON temples?
The other DOM instructions we have implemented are based upon this instruction of Srila Prabhupada
"They are already managing individual centers represented by one president, one secretary and one treasurer, and in my opinion they are doing nice."
At that time, according to my research, and I may be wrong, there were regular istagosthis of the devotees. In the temple the men and women were living separately in the respective ashrams, even if they were married. All devotees would attend the whole morning program, especially the TP, and they would go out on sankirtan, which meant, distributing Kirtan, books and Prasadam. So we are gradually implementing these instructions. You are welcome to come, stay with us in the Men's ashram and check and give suggestions on what more can we do.
Another statement of Srila Prabhupada is "Gradually the Society increased, and one after another branches were opened. Now we have got thirty-four (34) branches enlisted herewith." So we are trying to see which other temples/preaching centres around the world, whether called ISKCON or not, are willing to form the real ISKCON organization, under the banner of INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS. Maybe in a year's time, things will get cleared up, on who are real ISKCON temples and who are not, so that new contacts can be told the references of the temples.
We are trying to make new ISKCON centers, based upon Srila Prabhupada's formula of householder's opening preaching centers, men work initially, and in spare time, they go out on sankirtan. NY has many householder's who are Srila Prabhupada's disciples, and we are working with them, having regular Istagosthis in their homes, and generally helping them start their own centers in their homes -gradually. Of course, as you say, the first thing is to infuse in everyone the strong desire and importance of hearing from Srila Prabhupada. And to understand that Srila Prabhupada is a nitya-siddha associate of Lord Caitanya, Personality of Servitor Godhead and that all his activities are executed from a platform of ecstatic love of Lord Krishna. Krishnalingita Vigraha. I am not under illusion that it will take some years before these places would become ISKCON centres. But this is where we have started, and simultaneously these are the principles of DOM which all of us are familiar with while preaching. They know that the temple is governed by Srila Prabhupada's Direction of Management and in some years when there are enough temples, and most of those temple presidents feel that "we have increased our volume of activities, now I think a Governing Body Commission (hereinafter referred to as the GBC) should be established. " Then we would be in a position to implement even this instruction of Srila Prabhupada in his expanding real ISKCON.
I can definitely say that I would not be today talking to you as President of a functioning growing ISKCON temple(albiet small), if I had not started studying the DOM with the understanding that this is a practical instruction manual kept by Srila Prabhupada to manage his institution. And I can also safely say that this understanding has been progressively made possible by the assistance of our senior Godbrother Sriman Nara Narayana Vishwakarma Prabhu. I am grateful that he preached the importance of DOM in ISKCON to us, we won the lawsuit partly due to this angle. I see that he is preaching to ISKCON temples with a view to enlightening some other ISKCON temples like us with the hope that some of them will overthrow the corrupt leadership so that they can implement the hearing process of Srila Prabhupada in the right environment. Otherwise, maybe some intelligent devotees may come out of the temples on coming to know of the reality.
The hearing process of Srila Prabhupada, as emphasized by you is of paramount importance and should be really propagated. This is the most effective method to change our base qualities of nature to goodness and then to suddha goodness, from which platform we can preach. I do not see from his postings or in his temple that Nara Narayana Vishwakarma Prabhu is not agreeable to this fact. But I can also maybe bring to your kind attention that to maintain the hearing environment in an organized temple setup, which can provide a powerful tool to hear and discuss in an association, progressive implementation of Srila Prabhupada's Direction of Management is essential. I can testify to it.
Thank you for your great contributions to the resuscitation of ISKCON, and look forward to hearing from you.
Your humble servant,

THE DIRECTION OF MANAGEMENT ANALYSIS

RESPONSE TO A COMMENT ON THE DIRECTION OF MANAGEMENT:

Dear Prabhus,

Please accept my most humble obeisances. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada!

I want to thank you for your thoughtful and considerate comments regarding the Transcendental Intent of Srila Prabhupada to make sure that any leader above the level of temple president would be elected freely by the temple presidents themselves for a renewable three year term.

Interestingly, once the pieces are carefully assembled, there are no contradictions....In fact, what is beginning to be exposed, like the skeleton of an ancient murder, is that Srila Prabhupada was dealing with two Iskcons  not one.

We all know the “bright faced” Iskcon, with sankirtan, prasadam, endless enthusiasm and endless competition to truly please Srila Prabhupada.  The other Iskcon is just as well documented, but yet not as well publicized:...That is the Iskcon that  Srila Prabhupada described as “a sinister movement within our society”. He also accused the newly formed GBC of “Godless plan making”, and that “You kill guru and become guru”.

And what is that second Iskcon?...Practically, it is the entire leadership of Iskcon from 1970 to the present.....It appears that Srila Prabhupada, while making a Vaikuntha atmosphere for the “bright faced devotees” was also waging a silent, but deadly struggle against those who would seize the Movement, and  declare themselves to have (As Tamal put it in 1976) “Absolute Authority as GBC”. (This was in Maypur), and someone came to Srila Prabhupada and asked him about Tamal’s statement.  Srila Prabhupada responded,......”WHAT  absolute authority as GBC”?

The answers have all been hiding in plain sight.....And why not?. Just as Hiranyakasipu could not see Lord Hari before his eyes, as could his son Prahlad, so these same demonic despots cannot see the evidence scattered like jewels in the sand arranged right under their very noses.

Below, I have outlined a basic chronology...It is just an outline,..a skeleton, but if you follow it carefully, considering the time place and circumstance of each and every step of the way, a most heartbreaking sinister pattern begins to form....Soon, our group research will “flesh out” this outline with dozens of quotes from letters, lectures, writings etc. that will back up and fully reveal to even the dullest mind what has actually been going on in the name of Srila Prabhupada and Iskcon.

Here goes!

Here is the Chronology of The Direction of Management (1970).

1.         1970     Srila Prabhupada creates the Direction of Management after SF Rathayatra

2.         1971     First GBC meeting takes place in New Vrindaban with 12 GBC’s present.
Several months after the “TOPMOST URGENCY” letter, Srila Prabhupada writes several letters to  GBC members, referring to the DOM as the Constitutional Basis for Iskcon.

In a separate communication, Srila Prabhupada states that he “reserves the right to nominate GBC during his lifetime”....(Elections not absolutely required at this time).
(The Direction of Management is hailed by Rupanuga prabhu, as the “Constitution of Iskcon)

NOTE
After the first GBC meeting in New Vrindaban, (1971) one would have thought that the DOM would have been printed up and distributed to each of the temple presidents....All of the initiated disciples of Srila Prabhupada should have gotten a copy so that they could understand the organization that they had joined. Instead, the GBC told the Temple Presidents as well as any inquiring Iskcon member that the DOM was “Top Secret, to be read only by the GBC”.

How were the temple presidents to vote for GBC’s if they were not allowed to even read the document that gave the exact procedure for holding GBC elections?

I recall the GBC treating the DOM as a secret document, not to be shown to anyone as though it were some super secret Masonic initiation ritual. In retrospect, one wonders why this document was considered secret and confidential and not to be read by the common devotees, or even by the temple presidents.

3.       1972 A secret meeting was held in New York with many GBC members present. They “elected” an accountant (Atreya Rishi) to the GBC post, and created a plan to completely centralize Iskcon , (similar to how it is today).

Srila Prabhupada was not even informed of this meeting and he was also not invited to this meeting. When he found out, he declared the meeting to be a conspiracy, dissolved the GBC, and stated that it was a great offense to Him to hold a secret meeting behind His back without His authority or permission; to overthrow a document that they had all signed into Iskcon Law in 1970.

Clearly, the GBC of that time had no intention whatsoever to follow the orders of  the  DOM, or holding elections as prescribed in the DOM.

4.        1974 Spring of 1974 would have been the first GBC election following the formation of the GBC in 1971. The GBC made no move to hold elections. Later in 1974, Srila Prabhupada sent out a letter marked “TOPMOST URGENCY”.

There were two main points in the letter, the first was followed impeccably by all temples, the second point concerning the DOM was disobeyed completely. (See the Attached letter from 1974)

Several months after the “TOPMOST URGENCY” letter, Srila Prabhupada writes several letters to  GBC members, referring to the DOM as the Constitutional Basis for Iskcon.

5.         1975  Srila Prabhupada insists on the LA temple entering the DOM as part of the Non Profit documents filed with the state. This direct order was obeyed.  (The DOM has since been deleted after that time).
In 1975, I request the then GBC, Jayatirtha das to show me the DOM. He snarls that it is locked in a Safe and “you will never get to see it”! This is the approximate same time that the DOM was added to the Iskcon LA corporate papers, most probably by Jayatirtha himself and most probably forced by SP to do so.

6.        1977 The second GBC election could have been held in the Spring. Instead, on May 28, Satsvarupa suggests that the GBC elect new GBC members (obviously bypassing the DOM election process) Certainly, Satsvarupa pays no regard to the 1974 “TOPMOST URGENCY” letter, which (as it was never implemented, apparently does not cross his mind to ask about
DOM elections, rather than the GBC electing new GBC, which Srila Prabhupada thoroughly condemned in 1972.

In May of 1977, Srila Prabhupada states that although his personally selected GBC are to remain “for good” any vacancies in the GBC body should be replaced by election, presumably referring to his “TOPMOST URGENT” DOM order in the 1974 letter.

Later in July, He appoints 11 men to initiate in His name.

Srila Prabhupada leaves his body in the Fall under strange circumstances.

7.     1980 offers the first date for elections absolutely required after Srila Prabhupada’s passing, as per terms of DOM and May 28,1977 directive. He has stated that the GBC “Nominated” by Him are to remain “for good”. Satsvarupa asks and is told by SP that only  the GBC members who have for some reason vacated their “appointed by SP” GBC post are to be replaced via elections.

NOTE:
NO ELECTIONS HAVE BEEN HELD THEN OR SINCE. The DOM has been carefully secreted and hidden away by the GBC , so that not even any Temple Presidents (Who would certainly need to see and have a copy of the document if they were to hold GBC elections every three years as per the DOM).

I was able to find a copy of the DOM in 1994, which was the first time that I had seen it since 1971 in New Vrindaban. With my collaboration, the DOM was proposed for adoption By the late Sridham prabhu, at the Mayapur Meeting in 1996(?). Sridham prabhu was very, very excited by the DOM and thought everyone would like it, and hail it as the true authorized solution to Iskcon’s conspicuous leadership problems.

As soon as it was included in the Agenda for the GBC meeting in Mayapur, it was roundly attacked and savaged by Jayapataka, Tamal Krishna, and Rabindra Swarupa. They claimed that Srila Prabhupada had Himself rejected the DOM, and that this was a dead issue from many years ago. They accused anyone of looking into the DOM of disloyalty bordering on treachery.

After a hiatus of thirty five years, It is certainly time for us to move on this matter.

Those who would benefit from the DOM are the rank and file devotees who have been without care or shelter for the last thirty five years. If we jot down the statistics of scandal, abuse, expensive lawsuits etc for the last thirty five years, we can see that it is the unelected GBC leaders who have racked up most of the often shameful, burdenous cost to Iskcon, to be paid for by the hard-serving temple members. The temple members have paid and paid for each scandal, but have seldom been the cause of the scandals. Certainly, if each temple cared about itself and its members, GBC would have been elected who could have managed to stay clear of scandalous activities.

The abuses of the past must immediately come to an end, and the Iskcon of Tomorrow can begin to unfold as a realm of possibility Today.

Read the DOM, and you will realize how and why abuse victims like Ananda died due to the GBC not being accountable to the Temples they were supposed to represent, how abusers could remain in power, and wealth be accumulated by the “lucky” few who became GBC, Sanyasis, or gurus.

HAVING  ACTUALLY ASSUMED “ABSOLUTE POWER” , “ABSOLUTE POWER” HAS CORRUPTED THE GBC ABSOLUTELY.
That is obviously WHY Srila Prabhupada wanted the GBC to be elected......so that they could never become as corrupted as they have.

NOW SOME CLARIFICATION OF THE MAY 17TH TAPE TRANSCRIPT:
Satsvarupa:     Srila Prabhupada, we were all asked by the rest of the GBC to come to ask some questions. Most... These are the members of the original GBC as you first made it up.

NNV DAS:        THESE ARE THE MEN WHO REFUSED TO HOLD GBC  ELECTIONS, AND INSTEAD FORMED A SECRET CABAL (WHICH ILLEGALLY INCLUDED  ATREYA RISHI) TO RE-DESIGN  AND COMPLETELY CENTALIZE THE MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE OF  SKCON TO BECOME THE  DIRECT OPPOSITE TO THE DIRECT ORDER OF SRILA PRABHUPADA’S DIRECTION OF MANAGEMENT.

Satsvarupa:     So our first question is about the GBC members. We want to know how long should they remain in office?

Prabhupada:     They should remain for good.

NNV DAS:        THIS WAS NO TIME TO “ROCK THE BOAT” !  WITHIN MONTHS, SRILA PRABHUPADA WAS TO DIE IN AGONY ....”KILLED BY RAVANA” RATHER THAN BY “RAM”. THE LAST THING THAT WAS NEEDED WAS A “POST PRABHUPADA” SHAKEUP OF THE WHOLE MOVEMENT. IT WOULD HAVE GONE ON AND ON LIKE THE GAUDIYA MATHA TO THIS VERY DAY. SRILA PRABHUPADA OBVIOUSLY PICKED THE GBC MEN WITH AN EYE TO HOW THE MOVEMENT MIGHT FARE IN THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE AFTER HIS DISAPPEARANCE. THEY HAD REFUSED TO HOLD ELECTIONS, CONSPIRED TO DESTROY THE DOM, AND NOW WERE IN NO SHAPE FOR SUDDEN AND EVEN VIOLENT “REGIME CHANGE”

Tamala Krsna:   They should remain for good.

Prabhupada:     Selected men are chosen, so they cannot be changed.

NNV DAS:        THESE MEN WERE CHOSEN BY “DIVINE DECREE”...IN OTHER WORDS HAND PICKED BY THE ACHARYA HIMSELF. ALSO, THIS WAS NO TIME FOR A DRASTIC CHANGE. “SELECTED MEN ARE CHOSEN” MEANS THAT HE HIMSELF HAD CHOSEN THEM. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THESE MEN WERE PERFECT, OR EVEN HONEST OR FREE FROM DEMONIAC QUALITIES. IT SIMPLY MEANS THAT HE HAD CHOSEN THEM FOR WHATEVER REASON.

Prabhupada:     Rather, if some competent man comes, he should be added. I shall recommend that Vasudeva become one of the GBC.

NNV DAS:        STILL PRESENT, SRILA PRABHUPADA CLEARLY  STATES THAT HE SHALL HAVE THE ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY TO ADD VASUDEVA WITH OR WITHOUT THE APPROVAL OF THE OTHER GBC.

Tamala Krsna:   Vasudeva is Deoji Punja. He’s the founder of our... He’s building the temple in Fiji.
Prabhupada:     How many GBC’s are there already?

Tamala Krsna:   Twenty-three.

Prabhupada:     So add him. GBC is not to be changed.

NNV DAS:        NOTICE,THAT SRILA PRABHUPADA IS ACTUALLY “CHANGING THE GBC” BY ADDING VASUDEVA....NOT TO BE CHANGED REFERS TO A DIFFERENT MATTER.....SPECIFICALLY THAT THEY SHOULD NOT PLAY “MUSICAL CHAIRS” AFTER HIS DISAPPEARANCE.

Satsvarupa:          But then, in the event that some present GBC member leaves, either leaves...

Prabhupada:     Another should be elected.

Satsvarupa:          By the votes of the present GBC

HERE IS THE SOURCE OF THE CONFUSION!
ELECTED BY WHOM?....IN THE WORLD CREATED BY SRILA PRABHUPADA, THE 1974 LETTER MARKED “TOPMOST URGENCY” GAVE THE MOST ABSOLUTE ORDER  THAT THE DIRECTION OF MANAGEMENT BE ADDED TO THE CHARER AND BYLAWS OF EACH AND EVERY CENTER. IF THAT HAD BEEN DONE, THEN “ELECTED” COULD HAVE HAD ONLY ONE MEANING.....ELECTED ACCORDING TO THE DIRECTION OF MANAGEMENT.
SHOULD SRILA PRABHUPADA HAVE ASSUMED THAT HIS DISCIPLES, WHEN GIVEN THIS VERY URGENT ORDER MARKED “TOPMOST URGENCY,” HAD DELIBERATELY REFUSED, TO THE MAN, TO FOLLOW THAT VERY DIRECT AND UNAVOIDABLE ORDER?
DOES SATSVARUPA ASSUME THAT BECAUSE SRILA PRABHUPADA IS “TRI KALA GNA” THAT SRILA PRABHUPADA NOT ONLY KNEW VERY WELL THAT HIS “TOPMOST URGENT” COMMAND HAD  BEEN DELIBERATELY DISOBEYED, BUT THAT THIS WAS PERFECTLY “OK” WITH HIM?......
WHY WOULD SP GIVE  SUCH AN URGENT ORDER, DEMAND THAT IT BE IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED, AND THEN BE PERFECTLY HAPPY THREE YEARS LATER THAT  THAT ORDER HAD BEEN COMPLETELY DISOBEYED?
...WHERE IS THE ROOM CONVERSATION, THE LETTER TO SOMEONE, THE RECORDED DECREE THAT WOULD HAVE REVERSED THAT 1974  URGENT ORDER? WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO BELIEVE THAT IN THE CHRONOLOGY CLEARLY ESTABLISHED BY SRILA PRABHUPADA HIMSELF, THAT THE 1974 LETTER WAS EITHER FOLLOWED BY HIS “BELOVED DISCIPLES”  OR WAS MEANT TO HAVE BEEN FOLLOWED BY HIS “BELOVED DISCIPLES”..
THEREFORE, IN MAY 17, 1977, “ANOTHER SHOULD BE ELECTED” CAN ONLY MEAN ACCORDING TO THE DIRECTION OF MANAGEMENT WRITTEN IN 1970, AND FIRST IMPLEMENTED IN THE SPRING OF 1971, OVERTURNED IN 1972, RE-STATED BY SRILA PRABHUPADA IN 1974, FORCED INTO THE NEW DWARKA NON-PROFIT DOCUMENTS IN 1975, AND THEN MENTIONED IN 1977.

ONE YEAR AFTER THE FIRST GBC MEETING IN 1971, WHEN HE DISBANDED THE GBC AND ACCUSED THEM OF “GODLESS PLANMAKING” HE ONCE AGAIN ATTEMPTED TO INSTALL THE DIRECTION OF MANAGMENT (“TOPMOST URGENCY”!) IN 1974 VIA THE VERY IMPORTANT LETTER TO THAT EFFECT. (LATER IN 1974, HE REPEATEDLY WROTE LETTERS REFERRING TO THE DIRECTION OF MANAGEMENT AS THE FINAL AUTHORITY OF ISKCON).

ONCE AGAIN, THIS IS SATSVARUPA’S RESPONSE ABOUT HOW TO VOTE FOR GBC.

Satsvarupa:          By the votes of the present GBC.

OH, REALLY?........IT WAS THAT SAME GBC A FEW YEARS EARLIER WHO TOOK IT UPON THEMSELVES TO “ELECT” ATREYA RISHI TO BE A GBC. SRILA PRABHUPADA WAS ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS THAT THEY WOULD DARE TO THINK THAT THEY COULD “APPOINT” A GBC AT WILL! (THE VEDA BASE FROM 1971  TO 1975 IS LADEN WITH SRILA PRABHUPADA’S TOTAL DISGUST FOR THE GBC’S AND THEIR COMPLETE INABILITY AND UNWILLINGNESS TO PERFORM THE DUTIES LAID

Satsvarupa:          By the votes of the present GBC

SRILA PRAHUPADA SAYS......................NOTHING!

WHAT IS HE TO SAY?...” BY ELECTION” OBVIOUSLY MEANT ACCORDING TO THE ELECTION PROTOCOL OF THE DIRECTION OF MANAGEMENT....WHEN SATSVARUPA SAID “BY THE VOTES OF THE PRESENT GBC”, SRILA PRABHUPADA WAS PRESENTED FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH THE FACT THAT THE CONSPIRACY WAS COMPLETE, AND THAT THE 1974 LETTER HAD BEEN DELIBERATELY DISOBEYED.
JUST REMEMBER, HAD THE DOM BEEN ADDED TO THE BYLAWS OF EACH ISKCON TEMPLE, SATSVARUPA, AS A GBC MEMBER, WOULD HAVE SAID, “OH,...YOU  MEAN ACCORDING TO THE DIRECTION OF MANAGEMENT?”
THE ACTUAL ANSWER GIVEN BY SATSVARUPA IS VERY, VERY VERY,VERY,  SIGNIFICANT............IT IS AN ACTUAL CONFESSION OF A COMPLETED CRIME OF APARADH AGAINST THE PURE DEVOTEE OF THE LORD.

NOTE
In the Long Island court case, the GBC brought in the unadulterated Direction of Management to be filed in the court record as the “bonafides” of the GBC and proof of their authority over all Iskcon temples. Had the Judge examined the document, the GBC would have certainly have been disqualified due to their having never been elected.......BUT IT DID NOT GET THAT FAR!

After the DOM was recorded into the court record (What a miracle!) the judge examined the by laws of the Freeport Temple, which just happened to be Srila Prabhupada’s original incorporation papers of New York, which created Iskcon Inc.  The judge did not find any reference in the bylaws of the existence or authority of the GBC, nor did the bylaws reference the Direction of Management which the GBC had brought with them as proof of their Absolute Authority!...For that reason, the judge said, “I do not know if you have any authority over any other Iskcon
temple or not, but you clearly have no legal authority over THIS one, as neither you nor the Direction of Management is mentioned in your bylaws”.

Upon that finding, Judge Mahon threw the GBC members out of the Freeport Temple and told them that their so-called “authority: there was null and void. Had the 1974 letter been followed, the Freeport temple would have the DOM, which would have clearly stated the authority and limits of authority of the GBC. Had the DOM been added to the bylaws, then the judge would have completely disqualified the GBC for not having held elections.....(He had already disqualified the temple trustees for not having the legally required number of trustees on the Board,  and not keeping minutes (of their non-existing meetings) and for not holding formal meetings with minutes and published agenda as required by law!
When in Los Angeles, Srila Prabhupada insisted that the DOM be added to the Los Angeles temple bylaws.....and it was done. (in 1975). after a dizzying pattern of forming and changing bylaws for Iskcon of Southern California, the Iskcon trustees of LA removed the Direction of Management from the bylaws.....(Obviously, a completely illegal thing to do!) so, the chronology (even in this “bare bones” form) leaves no  reasonable doubt as to Srila Prabhupada’s intention to have Iskcon run under the DOM.

The horrors of the last thirty years were due almost entirely by the GBC posing as Vatican “Cardinals” whose authority flowed from the Pope, and who then ruled with “absolute authority”  over a self created  hierarchy imposed on Iskcon.....No WONDER 95% of Western Iskcon is composed of former Catholics...they feel right at home!) A
legal GBC would be hardly visible, would spend all of its time helping regulate and
perfect the organization of each temple.
Iskcon, as we think of it today, would not exist at all!

NOTE:
“Iskcon would refer to whichever temple you were pointing at, as each temple would be completely independent of each other temple, and run according to the requirements of the local congregation.

To hang out the “iskcon shingle” a temple would have to comply with very strict rules as laid out for all of us by Srila Prabhupada. (That is where the GBC and Sanyasis would have their legitimate field to help)......in the last thirty years, hundreds of Iskcon temples of various sizes would have sprung up in the Los Angeles area, as with complete independence, any group of families could form a temple as long as no goats were sacrificed to goddess Kali!

The earmark of the DOM Iskcon of the future is that young women with their young  children will be very safe and comfortable. Each temple will provide day care. Gurukulas will exist, husbands will open local business to feed themselves while creating jobs for other devotees.  All the young women and their young children would thrive in an atmosphere of Kirtan, Prasadam, Gorgeously Worshipped Deities, and classes in SP’s unchanged Vani will be the hobby and pre-occupation of these peaceful and contented young families who year by year would live better and better, while the horrors of kali  Yuga rage around their peaceful, protected homes. New devotee families will come to join because the life is very, very nice and pure for raising young children sweetly and safe from the dangers of urban life.
Your eternal servant,

NNV das

As we have increased our volume of activities, now I think a Governing Body Commission (hereinafter referred to as the GBC) should be established. I am getting old, 75 years old, therefore at any time I may be out of the scene, therefore I think it is necessary to give instruction to my disciples how they shall manage the whole institution. They are already managing individual centers represented by one president, one secretary and one treasurer, and in my opinion they are doing nice. But we want still more improvement in the standard of Temple management, propaganda for Krishna Consciousness, distribution of books and literatures, opening of new centers and educating devotees to the right standard.
Therefore, I have decided to adopt the following principles and I hope my beloved disciples will kindly accept them. There was a meeting in San Francisco during the Ratha Yatra festival 1970 and many presidents of the centers were present. In that meeting it was resolved that an ad hoc committee be set up to form the constitution which is taken into consideration. My duty was to first appoint twelve (12) persons to my free choice amongst my disciples and I do it now and their names are as follows:

1. Sriman Rupanuga Das Adhikary
2. Sriman Bhagavandas Adhikary
3. Sriman Syamsundar Das Adhikary
4. Sriman Satsvarupa Das Adhikary
5. Sriman Karandhar Das Adhikary
6. Sriman Hansadutta Das Adhikary
7. Sriman Tamala Krsna Das Adhikary
8. Sriman Sudama Das Adhikary
9. Sriman Bali Mardan Das Brahmacary
10. Sriman Jagadisa Das Adhikary
11. Sriman Hayagriva Das Adhikary
12. Sriman Krsnadas Adhikary

These personalities are now considered as my direct representatives. While I am living they will act as my zonal secretaries and after my demise they will be known as Executors.

I have already awarded Sannyas or the renounced order of life to some of my students and they have also got very important duties to perform in this connection. The Sannyasis will travel to our different centers for preaching purpose as well as enlightening the members of the center for spiritual advancement. The Sannyasis will suggest for opening new centers in suitable places and the GBC will take action on it. As was stipulated by the ad hoc committee, the function of the GBC will be as follows with particulars:

PARTICULARS OF THE GOVERNING BODY COMMISSION

"The purpose of the Governing Body Commission is to act as the instrument for the execution of the Will of His Divine Grace. And further,

1. The GBC oversees all operations and management of ISKCON, as it receives direction from Srila Prabhupada and His Divine Grace has the final approval in all matters.

2. His Divine Grace will select the initial 12 members of the GBC. In the succeeding years the GBC will be elected by a vote of all Temple presidents who will vote for 8 from a ballot of all Temple presidents, which may also include any secretary who is in charge of a Temple. Those 8 with the greatest number of votes will be members for the next term of GBC. Srila Prabhupada will choose to retain four commissioners. In the event of Srila Prabhupada's absence, the retiring members will decide which four will remain.

3. The commissioners will serve for a period of 3 years, and they may be re-elected at the end of this period.

4. The chairman is elected by the GBC for each meeting. He has no veto power, but in even of a vote tie, his vote will decide. The same will apply for votes cast by mail between regular meetings.

5. Throughout the year, each of the commissioners will stay with His Divine Grace for one month at a time and keep the other commissioners informed of His Divine Grace's instructions.

6. The primary objective of the GBC is to organize the opening of new Temples and to maintain the established Temples.

7. Advice will be given by the GBC in cases of real property purchases, which will be in the name of ISKCON, INC. (Trucks or other vehicles will be purchased in the name of the local president).

8. Removal of a Temple president by the GBC requires support by the local Temple members.

9. The GBC has no jurisdiction in the publication of manuscripts, which will be handled by a separate committee; profits to be returned to Srila Prabhupada."

So far my books are concerned, I am setting up a different body of management known as the BHAKTIVEDANTA BOOK TRUST. The trustees of this body are also members of the GBC, but their function is not dependent on the GBC. ISKCON Press was created for the exclusive publication of my books and literatures and should be continued in that way. During my absence no one shall live in my apartment.
