Three simple, yet profound statements by Srila Prabhupada

By:
Dama Ghosha Dasa (Seattle, USA)

1. Adi 6.85
Some accept Him (Lord Chaitanya) whereas others do not, yet everyone is His servant. One who does not accept Him, however, will be ruined by his sinful activities.

2. Conversations

Reporter (2): What will happen to the movement in the United States when you die?

Prabhupada: I will never die.

Devotees: Jaya! Hari bol! (laughter)

Prabhupada: I shall live for my books, and you will utilize.

3. Lectures, July 4, 1970, San Francisco

Pressman: Do you know how many followers there are in the United States now?

Prabhupada: Unlimited. (devotees roar) Some of them admit and some of them do not admit. That's all. (laughter) Everyone is eternally servant of God, but some of them admit and some of them do not admit. That is the difficulty. But anyone who does not admit, he is servant of somebody. That is a fact. He cannot be master. Everyone is servant. But one who knows that "I am servant of Krishna," his life is perfect. That's all. Please try to understand this point that everyone is servant. Even your president is servant of the nation. So nobody can say that "I am no one's servant." He is servant, but he does not know that actually he is the servant of the Supreme Lord. That is his ignorance. We are just eradicating this ignorance, that "You are servant, but you admit that you are servant of God. That will make your life successful." That's all. Therefore I say that there are unlimited followers. Some of them admit and some of them do not admit. That is the difficulty. But if anyone comes to me, I shall make him to admit.

* * * * * *
We can see from the above statement in  Chaitanya Charitamrita that Krishna das Kaviraj explicitly states that Lord  Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

And those who accept Him will be saved and those who do not, will be ruined.

This same principle can be applied to Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s predicted Senapati Bhakta, or Field Commander - A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.  Srila Prabhupada has been chosen by Lord Gauranga to represent Him in the coming years of Kali yuga.  As Srila Prabhupada once said, after him, only Lord Chaitanya can save one.

Therefore the conclusion is this - Lord Chaitanya and Srila Prabhupada are the ones whom we must surrender to, because without  both of them, we are ruined.

GBC Society of West Bengal

 Roupa Manjari devi dasi

Chandra dasa: Could you kindly elaborate West Bengal GBC, why not the total GBC why just West Bengal?
Roupa Manjari devi dasi: One would think that the “GBC Society of West Bengal” would be the GBC in West Bengal, or India, but in fact, ALL of the “GBC” in the world belong to that society, a society that exists outside of ISKCON, just as the Vatican, although it is in a foreign land (Vatican City, actually Italy), rules the Catholic Churches that are situated in every country around the world.

The “GBC Society of West Bengal” took on the title of “Ultimate Ecclesiastical Authority” of ISKCON (we will link you to their Bylaws), with their “eyes wide open”. The GBC had observed how the Catholic Church in Los Angeles was able to prevent the law enforcement from accessing their records concerning the abuse of children, due to fact that their “ecclesiastical” status allowed them to exist, to a surprising degree, outside of the American legal system, which lacks the power to seize their records.
All the ISKCON Temples in the world are currently under the “GBC Society of West Bengal”, just as the Catholic Church is “ruled” from Rome by the Pope and his Cardinals.
It remains to be seen if this unelected GBC, who “outsourced” themselves to avoid prosecution for present and future crimes, can actually maintain the sham of actually being an ecclesiastical body in the same manner as the Catholic Church. The attorneys setting up this status for the “GBC Society of West Bengal” warned them that if it could be proved even in one instance that they did NOT have an actual ecclesiastical structure, that their whole “house of cards” could come crashing down on them, because then the law enforcement would have full access to their hidden records.
This is the game that is being played, and it is being played on such a high level within the artificial hierarchy of the present non-elected GBC, that practically no one is aware of what is going on.
In the United States, practically all of the Temple Presidents (a few refused) were forced to sign an Oath of Allegiance to the “GBC Society of West Bengal”, using the exact language that Srila Prabhupada formulated for an Oath of Allegiance, which He forced all the GBCs to sign in 1976, to prevent their “out and out” rebellion against Him. Apparently, very few Temples outside of the United States have been made to sign the Oath of Allegiance to the West Bengal GBC Society, but certainly that must be their very next goal, although some individual disciples of the bogus gurus have been forced to sign.
If you read the Bylaws of the “West Bengal GBC Society”, you will see for yourself how they have made an “end run” on any authority that may remain in ISKCON that was manifested by Srila Prabhupada in ISKCON.
The “GBC Society of West Bengal” have declared themselves to be a secret society, and they have rules and bylaws of their own, which are not available for any devotees or Temple Presidents to see.
Once you have become familiar with the “GBC Society of West Bengal” Bylaws, please feel free to share them with anyone who has the type of mind to understand such things.

DUTIES & QUALIFICATIONS of GBC

By His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
Founder & Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness

Mandate of the GBC-As Representative of Srila Prabhupada, to manage ISKCON.

As we have increased our volume of activities, now I think a Governing Body Commission (hereinafter referred to as the GBC) should be established. I am getting old, 75 years old, therefore at any time I may be out of the scene, therefore I think it is necessary to give instruction to my disciples how they shall manage the whole institution. They are already managing individual centers represented by one president, one secretary and one treasurer, and in my opinion they are doing nice. But we want still more improvement in the standard of Temple management, propaganda for Krishna Consciousness, distribution of books and literatures, opening of new centers and educating devotees to the right standard. Therefore, I have decided to adopt the following principles and I hope my beloved disciples will kindly accept them. (Srila Prabhupada in Direction of Management, July 28, 1970)
The purpose of the Governing Body Commission is to act as the instrument for the execution of the Will of His Divine Grace. And further,
1.  The GBC oversees all operations and management of ISKCON, as it receives direction from Çréla Prabhupäda and His Divine Grace has the final approval in all matters….
6. The primary objective of the GBC is to organize the opening of new Temples and to maintain the established Temples.
(Particulars of the GBC, Direction of Management, July 28, 1970)
Resolved: The GBC (Governing Body Commissioned) has been established by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada to represent Him in carrying out the responsibility of managing the International Society for Krishna Consciousness of which He is the Founder-Acarya and supreme authority. The GBC accepts as its life and soul His divine instructions and recognizes that it is completely dependent on His mercy in all respects. The GBC has no other function or purpose other than to execute the instructions so kindly given by His Divine Grace and preserve and spread his Teachings to the world in their pure form.
It is understood that the GBC, as a collective body of 14-members has been authorized by His Divine Grace to make necessary arrangements for carrying out these responsibilities of management. These arrangements may include delegating authority, managing resources, setting objectives, making plans, calling for reports, evaluating results, training others, maintaining spiritual standards and defining sphere of influence of the various GBC members as well as other devotees.

The members of the GBC do not have any inherent authority but rather derive their authority from the Governing Body Commission itself and ultimately from His Divine Grace. Their authority may be over a particular geographic area or over a particular function. Whichever area of responsibility be given to the various members their primary responsibility is to the society as a whole.
(GBC Resolutions, 1975 Mayapur in the presence of Srila Prabhupada)

Purpose: To handle management, philosophy questions, personal problems, keep devotional standards at the highest level
I have set up the Governing Body Commission to handle management, questions of philosophy, and personal problems. These things are too much botheration to me. I simply want time to write books to satisfy my Guru Maharaja. (SPL to Upendra, August 6th, 1970)
I have formed this GBC for that purpose, to keep the devotional standards at the highest level and at the same time to manage a world-wide organization. (SPL to Rupanuga, November 4th, 1970)
One thing is, have you GBC members decided amongst yourselves, how your zone of Far East will be managed in your absence?    There must be someone there who can advise and instruct in all matters. (SPL to Bali Uardan, February 27th, 1972)
You mention that you are no longer much occupied with seeing that the rent and mortgage is paid and that the incense is sold, but GBC means to be occupied with everything in the zone. It is not that now we are preachers we can neglect all other points. No, the GBC member is supposed to know everything and anything about the condition and situation of all matters within his jurisdiction. That is the meaning of secretary …, and similarly, you shall do as I am doing. That is your real business. (SPL to Satsvarupa, July 1st, 1972)
Be Personal Example
These regulative principles are our life, if they are not respected then we fall down from the standard and the whole thing is finished. As GBC you should see the standard is perfectly maintained, and that Deity worship is perfectly done. Then Krsna will give us all protection. Neglecting the principles means neglecting Krsna's order. So you are one of the chief men of this Institution, kindly maintain your behaviour to the standard so that others will follow and the whole thing may go on nicely. It was said about Lord Caitanya: Spanl Heart prabhu jtcere sikhaya, that is, He personally used to practice Himself the injunctions and then He used to teach others. That is our principle: unless one is a perfectly behaved person, he cannot teach others. My only request is that all the GBC members should be strictly to the standard of life, and see that others are also following them. Then our centers will be well-managed. Kindly do that and advise your co-workers to do that." (SPL to Hayagriva, February 13th, 1972)
My only anxiety is to guide you. Krsna sometimes makes me sick just to examine how much you have learned to conduct the business under my guidance, with a little independence. You should never act independently, because my guidance in my words are always there. The main guidance is all of us should remain spiritually strong by chanting the minimum number of rounds and following the rules and regulations. The GBC should personally observe strictly all the rules and regulations and they should become the practical example to others. Then everything will be all right. Then there will be no fear of being victimized by maya. (SPL to Bali Mardan dasa, 5th, September, 1974)
So you may remain wherever you may be peaceful. You may resume your GBC duties as secretary for the Central U.S.A. Zone. GBC means that one must be ideal Vaisnava. That means there must be strict observance in following all the rules and regulations. This is your main responsibility, and then to see that all others are following strictly. Then everything will be all right. (SPL to Jagadisa dasa, 6th September, 1974)
So I request you all to follow strictly the regulative principles, especially the chanting on the beads. GBC means to be a practical example to all residents of temples and devotees. If all of us follow this principle of purity, our spiritual position will remain sound, and maya will not touch us. mayam etam tarantite. A fully surrendered soul always remains untouched by the hand of maya. Otherwise it is not possible. (SPL to Kirtananada Maharaja, 5th October, 1974)
Regarding Sydney, that the President has left, if one does not follow the regulative principles, then he will leave. That is a fact. Has somebody else been elected? This is the function of the GBC, to see that one may not be taken away by maya. The GBC should all be the instructor gurus. I am in the initiator guru, and you should be the instructor guru by teaching what I am teaching and doing what I am doing. This is not a title, but you must actually come to this platform. This I want. (SPL to Madhudvisa Swami, 4th August, 1975)
The GBC must be vigilant by following the regulative principles and teach by ideal character the presidents of the centers, and the presidents by their ideal character must teach the others then automatically all members of the whole institution will be ideal to the human society. Then we can dictate to administrators or sometimes take hold of the administration. In the absence of competent leaders we may take the post. …So our business is to keep fit as brahmanas and to train others to be ideal ksatriyas and vaisyas for advancing the whole society. (SPL to Rupanuga Maharaja, 28th April, 1974)

“Tulasi Devi never goes back to Godhead, she is always with Godhead”

6 January, 1972
Bombay

My Dear Radhaballabah das,

Please accept my blessings. I beg to acknowledge receipt of your first and second copies of your letter dated December 18th, 1971 which were sent to Bombay and Madras respectively.

I am very glad to know that you are seriously taking to Srimati Tulasi Devi worship. Tulasi Devi is a pure devotee of Krishna and she should be treated with the same respect given to all Krishna’s pure devotees. Simply by worshipping her faithfully, a devotee can get himself free of from all material miseries.

In the Nectar of Devotion I have given two verses from the Skanda Purana, one of which is: “Tulasi is auspicious in all respects. Simply by seeing, simply by touching, simply by remembering, simply by praying to, simply by bowing before, simply by hearing about, or simply by sowing the tree, there is always auspiciousness. Anyone who comes in touch with the Tulasi tree in the above mentioned ways lives eternally in the Vaikuntha world.”

So from this verse we can understand how pure is the service which Tulasi offers to Sri Krishna. So we should always endeavor after becoming servant of Tulasi Devi.

I do not know who has taught you that part of a Tulasi plant may be cut off and then replanted? From the Tulasi plant you can cut off only leaves for offering them to Krishna, never for cutting and planting. That is an offense. The manjaris (seeds) can be offered in water and it makes the water fragrant and tasteful. And the manjaris can be planted for growing new Tulasi plants.

Yes, the prayer you have enclosed is bona fide. Tulasi Devi never goes back to Godhead, she is always with Godhead. She is a pure devotee and thus she has appeared on this planet to render service to Krishna by being offered in all temples throughout the world by being offered up to the lotus feet of Krishna.

Chanting japa should be done early in the morning with full concentration preferably during the Brahma Muhurta time. Concentrate fully on the sound vibration of the mantra, pronouncing each name distinctly and gradually your speed in chanting will increase naturally. Do not worry so much about chanting fast, most important is the hearing. A devotee should always be grave and silent which means that he only discusses topics relating to Krishna Consciousness.

Yes, spend your time chanting and reading and taking Krishna Prasadam and automatically your tongue will come under control. If you sincerely engage 24 hours daily in devotional service according to the instructions of the Spiritual Master, chant daily 16 rounds, attend the arati ceremony of Lord Krishna, associate with the devotees and adhere strictly to the regulative principles then Krishna will reveal Himself personally to you.

I hope this meets you in good health.

Your ever well-wisher,
A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami
